The Gardens of Winthur are full of beautiful peonies. They had to close down for a couple months due to the Covid pandemic. There is a particular peony that I fell in love with. I can’t identify which kind of peony it is because there are so many of them. The Winterthur Gardens are a part of Du Pont’s estate. They almost didn’t plant peony’s but thankfully they did. Du Pont collaborated with Marian Coffin and Silvia Saunders to make this amazing garden come to fruition.
Key Takeaways:
- The garden of Winterthur was forced to shut down due to its’ popularity amidst the Covid-19 pandemic.
- The peony is extremely difficult to grow and the seeds must be planted in the fall, then it can still take 2 or 3 years for them to grow.
- The Winterthur garden was eventually turned into a public place, along with the house on the property.
“Among the lush woodlands and rolling meadows of Delaware’s Winterthur, something is always in bloom.”
