Katherine is an aspiring woodworker who enjoys dance, math, and writing. She is going to build a toolbox with Tom Silva’s instruction. First they use their longest tool to measure what length the box will need to be. She concentrates on keeping her shoulder straight with the hand saw as she cuts the wood. They use math to decide how far the sides will stick out from the bottom, and line up all their pieces. The corners are cut on angles to dress it up. Next they drill one inch holes for the dowel handle. The pieces are sanded down before they are glued and nailed into place. They tool box is finished when a logo for Ask This Old House is burned into one side. As an extra gift, Katherine receives tools for her toolbox.
