The three keys to a healthy lawn are watering, fertilizing and mowing. However, you need to be able to get food to the soil beneath the grass where the roots are. This done with aeration. Aeration is where plugs are made in grass allowing air to reach the deeper level of the grass. The key to a successful aeration is a wet lawn. The core aerators will have an easy time on wet grass rather than a dry lawn.
Key things you should know about aeration:
- Aeration of a lawn involved putting small holes in to penetrate grass and allow roots to grow deeper.
- If your yard is frequently used you should aerate it. Kids and pets compact the lawn.
- Even if you aerate, continue to mow and fertilize as normally to keep your grass healthy.
